Uttarakhand: CRP-BRP Recruitment Process to Shift from Random to Merit-Based Selection

Dehradun: The recruitment process for Cluster Resource Persons (CRP) and Block Resource Persons (BRP) in Uttarakhand is set to undergo a significant change. The state government has decided to shift the selection process from a random draw to a merit-based system to ensure fairness and transparency. The Department of School Education has been directed to submit a revised proposal in this regard.

16,000 Applicants Competing for 955 Posts, Concerns Raised Over Selection

The recruitment process for 955 CRP and BRP positions saw over 16,000 applications when online submissions were opened on June 29, 2024. However, concerns were raised by many candidates and unemployed groups regarding the random selection process, fearing that highly qualified candidates with better academic scores could be left out of the selection.

Shift to Merit-Based Selection

In response to these concerns, the Education Department sought clarification from the government on whether to continue with the random selection or switch to a merit-based approach. On October 16, 2024, the government issued a directive asking the State Project Directorate of Samagra Shiksha to submit a revised proposal, favoring merit-based selection to ensure that candidates with higher qualifications are fairly considered.

Recruitment to be Conducted Through Prayag Portal

According to Education Director-General Jharna Kamthan, the recruitment process will still be conducted through the Prayag Portal under the Employment Department, focusing on merit-based selection. The earlier random process posed a risk of leaving deserving candidates out, which led to the need for this change.

Key Highlights:

  • Over 16,000 applications were received for 955 CRP and BRP positions.
  • The government has directed that the selection be based on merit, not a random draw.
  • The State Project Directorate has been tasked with submitting a revised proposal.

This shift to merit-based recruitment is expected to bring more transparency to the hiring process and ensure that candidates with better qualifications and higher scores are not overlooked. It also addresses the concerns raised by various stakeholders about fairness in the selection process.
