Dehradun: This Diwali is set to bring extra cheer for the UPNL (Uttarakhand Purv Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited) employees in Uttarakhand. The state government has announced that these employees, along with those working in self-help groups (SHGs), will receive a bonus as a festive gift before Diwali. Until now, only employees from PITCUL and UJVNL were entitled to Diwali bonuses in the form of an incentive. However, UPNL and SHG employees had been missing out on this benefit due to the financial constraints faced by Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL).
Decision After Employee Protests
The announcement comes after a series of protests by UPNL employees, who had been demanding the resolution of their long-standing issues. A meeting was held recently between the managing directors of the three corporations and employee representatives to address their grievances. It was during this meeting that the decision was made to grant UPNL employees the Diwali bonus, similar to what their counterparts in other corporations have been receiving.
Demands for DA and Allowance Hike
In addition to the bonus, UPNL employees have also expressed their gratitude towards the government and management for addressing their concerns. However, they have emphasized the need to implement the other assurances made during the meeting promptly. Vinod Kavi, the coordinator of the Vidyut Samvida Ekta Manch, mentioned that the night shift allowance and special energy allowance for UPNL employees would be increased. They have also been pushing for an increase in allowances for regular employees.
Furthermore, UPNL employees have demanded the restoration of the dearness allowance (DA), which had been put on hold by the government. With these changes, they hope to see an improvement in their working conditions and overall benefits.
The decision to provide the bonus and other allowances reflects the government’s effort to address the concerns of UPNL employees, ensuring that they too can enjoy the festive season with added financial support.
