Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed officials to draft road accident safety guidelines in light of recent severe accidents in Marchula and Dehradun. To achieve this, he has called for the formation of a committee comprising experts and experienced professionals who will prepare the draft and submit it to the government.
The announcement was made during a meeting with senior officials at the Chief Minister’s residence on Friday. The committee, once formed, is expected to include representatives from the transport, public works, police, disaster management, health, and other key departments.
Formation of the Committee Imminent
Expressing concern over the rising number of road accidents, CM Dhami emphasized the need for all possible government measures to prevent such incidents. He stressed the importance of implementing solutions that effectively curb road accidents. Sources indicate that the committee will soon be constituted.
Strict Enforcement of Alcohol Sales Regulations
The Chief Minister also addressed complaints about bars and liquor shops operating beyond permitted hours in various parts of the state, including the capital. He issued strict instructions to ensure that these establishments adhere to their operating hours. Non-compliance will result in stringent action. He also directed constant monitoring, nighttime patrolling with breathalyzers, and enforcement against overspeeding, ensuring public safety is prioritized.
Expansion of Regional Air Connectivity
CM Dhami also instructed the operation of fixed-wing aircraft between Dehradun and Gauchar and Chinyalisaur. He urged the authorities to expedite the tender process and complete all formalities for the project. During the meeting, officials reported that the process for Expressions of Interest (EOI) to operate aircraft from Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport to these destinations has already commenced.
These measures reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing road safety, ensuring public order, and improving regional air connectivity in Uttarakhand.
