Chakrata, or Chakrota, is a town in the Dehradun district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Situated at an altitude of 2,118 meters (6,949 ft), it is a hill station and a cantonment.

Chakrata is known for its serene atmosphere and pollution-free environment. This town is 98 kilometers from Dehradun. Chakrata is an ideal destination for nature lovers and trekkers. Long walks through the evergreen coniferous forests offer a unique experience. The Jaunsari tribe’s charming villages are nestled within the sprawling dense forests of Chakrata. The town falls within the Jaunsar Bawar region of northwestern Uttarakhand. Chakrata was founded by Colonel Hume and his fellow officers, who were associated with the 55th Regiment of the British Army. Given the climate, the British used the site as a summer army base. Currently, commando training is provided here for army personnel.

Tiger Falls

A 5-kilometer walk from Chakrata is the 50-meter-high Tiger Falls. The view of the waterfall cascading into a small pond from a high vantage point is breathtaking. Located at an altitude of 1395 meters above sea level, this waterfall is located northeast of Chakrata.
Lakhamandal

Located on the Mussoorie-Yamunotri road, Lakhamandal has historical and mythological significance. Lakhamandal is located 3-4 kilometers from Barnigad, on the banks of the Yamuna River at the northern end of the Yamuna River. Located at an altitude of 1372 meters above sea level, Lakhamandal is 60 km from Chakrata, 75 km from Mussoorie, and 128 km from Dehradun. Lakhamandal is particularly associated with the Mahabharata period. Excavations conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India have uncovered the remains of lakhs of idols, which is one reason for its name, Lakhamandal.
Moigad Falls

This tranquil and clear waterfall is located 69 kilometers from Dehradun on the Delhi-Yamunotri road. One can refresh oneself by bathing here while on their way to Yamunotri.
Kanasar

Surrounded by high hills and dense rainforests, this place is an ideal destination for tourists. There is a forest rest house for accommodation, offering breathtaking views. Kanasar is located 26 kilometers from Chakrata on the Chakrata-Tuni road.
Ramtal Garden

Ramtal Garden is located 9 kilometers from Chakrata on the Chakrata-Mussoorie road. This garden is 30 meters long and 20 meters wide. This beautiful and lush garden is an excellent place for picnics.
Dev Van

Located 16 kilometers from Chakrata, this place is surrounded by dense forests. Dev Van is located at an altitude of 9500 feet above sea level. From here, the vast Himalayan mountain ranges can be seen.
