Dehradun: Uttarakhand has a new Director General of Police (DGP). Senior IPS officer Deepam Seth of the 1995 batch has been appointed as the state’s 13th DGP. The state’s Home Department issued an official notification for his appointment. Seth replaces the acting DGP Abhinav Kumar and brings with him a wealth of experience in policing and administration.
Prior to this role, Deepam Seth was on central deputation, serving as Inspector General (IG) in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Additional Director General (ADG) in the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). The Uttarakhand government, citing the need for his expertise, had requested the central government to relieve him early, which was promptly approved.
Extensive Experience in Policing
Deepam Seth has a distinguished career with significant contributions in both Uttar Pradesh (before the state was bifurcated) and Uttarakhand.

Seth served as Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar, and later as Superintendent of Police (SP City) in Agra. - Prominent Positions in Uttarakhand:
Post the formation of Uttarakhand, he held important positions including Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Nainital, Inspector General (IG) of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), and IG of Law and Order.
Central Deputation and Leadership Roles
In 2019, Seth was sent on central deputation, where he served in critical capacities with ITBP and SSB, overseeing key operations and administrative tasks. His vast experience at the national level is expected to contribute significantly to the state’s policing strategies.
