Delhi Air Pollution Crisis: AQI Nears 500, Schools and Universities Shift Online

Delhi : The air quality in Delhi and surrounding areas has deteriorated sharply, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) nearing the maximum level of 500, placing it in the “severe plus” category. A dense layer of smog continues to envelop the capital, significantly reducing visibility and disrupting daily life.

As per data from the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), Delhi’s overall AQI stood at a hazardous 494 early Monday morning, with most of the city’s 35 monitoring stations reporting an AQI of 500.

In response to the alarming situation, authorities have taken urgent measures. Both Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) have transitioned to online classes. Additionally, the Delhi government has announced the suspension of all in-person classes up to Class 12, shifting to virtual learning modes.

Similarly, schools in nearby areas such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and other parts of Haryana have also halted physical classes, moving entirely online to safeguard students’ health.

The hazardous air quality has raised serious public health concerns, prompting citizens to stay indoors and avoid outdoor activities.
