Bageshwar: If there is will in the mind, then gold can be grown even in the soil. Dr. Kishan Rana, who lives in Garud area of Bageshwar, is doing the same. He is counted among the progressive farmers of the district. He has emerged as an example of self-reliance for others through vegetable production.
Dr. Kishan Rana is a resident of Rithad village. After doing PhD, he had the option of doing a government job, but instead of turning to the government job and migrating to the field, he chose Uttarakhand.
He reached the fields with a shovel and spade and made horticulture and vegetable production a means of employment. So far this season he has sold around 400 quintals of pumpkin. Due to which he has made a profit of about 16 thousand at the rate of Rs 40 per kg.
Apart from this, vegetables like capsicum, beans, tomato, bitter gourd, gourd, brinjal etc. are also being prepared in their fields and polyhouse. Dr. Kishan Singh Rana also organizes Kirsan competition every year to connect people with agriculture. They also honor hardworking women and men for encouraging them.
Dr. Kishan Singh Rana says that there is a danger of wild animals to agriculture in the mountain, but with strong willpower, victory can be achieved over every challenge. If we want to defeat migration, then we have to save the mountains and agriculture.
Employment opportunities have to be created here. Instead of wandering around in search of jobs, the young generation needs to recognise their strength and become self-reliant. The Horticulture Department should also come forward to help the people.
