According to officials, the CBI has detained retired Navy captain Ashish Pathak and independent journalist Vivek Raghuvanshi for allegedly gathering sensitive material on defence issues and passing it on to foreign intelligence services. They said that Raghuvanshi and Pathak were brought before a special CBI court, which sentenced them to six days in the agency’s custody.

An ex-Navy officer named Pathak, who is now employed by a private company, and the accused “were also alleged to have been in possession of classified secret documents related to Indian defence establishments,” a CBI spokeswoman said.

After get information that some Indian journalists were gathering and providing such information to foreign intelligence agencies with the potential to sour relations with friendly nations, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the investigation from the Delhi Police Special Cell, which had been tracking Raghuvanshi since September of last year.
