Dehradun/Shimla: Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are grappling with the aftermath of devastating cloudbursts that have resulted in widespread destruction and loss of life. At least 23 people have perished in the two states, with rescue operations underway to locate 45 missing individuals.

The Kedarnath pilgrimage has been severely impacted, with over 800 pilgrims stranded due to the treacherous conditions. The Indian Air Force has deployed Chinook and MI-17 helicopters to evacuate the stranded devotees, while drones are being utilized in Himachal Pradesh to access remote areas cut off by landslides.

The torrential rains have caused significant damage to infrastructure, including 103 houses and vital highways. Authorities are working tirelessly to restore connectivity and provide relief to the affected population.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of more rainfall in the coming days, raising concerns about further landslides and floods.
