Railways: Insect Found in Sambar Served on Vande Bharat Train, Video Goes Viral; Here’s What Railways Said

The Indian Railways promptly responded to a viral video showing an insect in the sambar served on the Vande Bharat Express. According to the Railways, the food package was handed over to a health inspector at Dindigul station for immediate inspection. The investigation revealed that the insect was stuck on the lid of the food container.

Viral Video Sparks Controversy

The Vande Bharat Express, often praised for its superior service, has once again come under scrutiny for its food quality. During a journey from Tirunelveli to Chennai, a passenger shared a video on social media showing an insect floating in the sambar served in an aluminum container. Despite positive feedback on the train’s service, passengers expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of food.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore also raised concerns by sharing the video on social media. He questioned what measures were being taken to address such issues, stating,
“Passengers have expressed concerns about cleanliness and IRCTC’s accountability. What steps are being taken to ensure food safety in premium trains?”

Railways’ Response

The Railways immediately investigated the matter. A statement clarified that the food package was inspected at Dindigul station, where it was found that the insect was stuck to the container’s lid. A penalty of ₹50,000 was imposed on the food service provider responsible for this incident.

The Railways reiterated their commitment to maintaining food quality and addressing passenger grievances promptly.

Recurring Food Quality Issues

This is not the first such incident involving the Vande Bharat Express. In a previous case, a passenger found a cockroach in their meal, which also went viral on social media.

The Vande Bharat Express, a part of the government’s Make in India initiative, provides medium-distance, high-speed express service. While it is celebrated for its modern design and efficiency, food quality concerns continue to plague its reputation.
