Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, questioned on Sunday whether someone’s education degree can be a political issue in the country at a time when the country is dealing with unemployment, law and order issues, and inflation. The statement follows speculation sparked by his recent statement on Adani.
The Aam Aadmi Party has raised the issue, and jailed AAP leader Manish Sisodia wrote a letter from Tihar saying that the country needs an educated person in the position of Prime Minister.
The Gujarat high court overturned a 2016 order by the central information commissioner requesting that information about Modi’s university degrees be provided to AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal under the right to Information Act.
In response to Sharad Pawar’s stance on the degree controversy, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla stated, “I wonder if some Congress leader, Uddhav Sena, or AAP leader will now attack him and call him names/abuse him again! I sincerely hope they will listen to the Gujarat High Court as well as their own ally! We need to talk about the levels of corruption of people like Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, on which courts have repeatedly ruled.”
Sharad Pawar questioned the credibility of the Hindenburg Research Report, which levelled the allegations against the Adani Group, in an interview with NDTV.
Pawar disagreed with the demand for a joint parliamentary committee investigation into the alleged scam and later clarified that his disagreement is based on the fact that a JPC will have a majority of the ruling party and, in his opinion, a Supreme Court-monitored panel will be better.
Following Sharad Pawar’s Adani remark, Congress leader Alka Lamba sparked outrage by labelling Pawar “scared and greedy.” The Congress leader also stated that it was her personal opinion, not the party’s.
