Kishtwar/Srinagar: Three Indian Army paratroopers were injured in an ongoing encounter with suspected cross-border terrorists in the dense forests of the Chaas area in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday, according to officials. Meanwhile, a separate encounter erupted in Srinagar’s Harwan area, adding to the series of violent incidents that have shaken the region in recent weeks.
The gunfight in Kishtwar began when the Indian Army, in coordination with 11 Rashtriya Rifles, launched an extensive operation targeting suspected members of terrorist groups. Officials report that the militants currently engaged in the standoff are believed to be connected to the killing of two Village Defence Guards on November 18 in the same area. The security forces have cornered the suspected terrorists, but the operation is ongoing and poses significant challenges in the heavily forested terrain.
In Srinagar’s Harwan area, another clash broke out between security forces and suspected terrorists, reflecting heightened tensions and escalating violence across Jammu and Kashmir. These back-to-back incidents underscore the challenges faced by Indian security forces in the region, where cross-border terrorism has continued to be a persistent threat.
The condition of the injured paratroopers remains undisclosed, and further details on the casualties or potential captures of suspected terrorists are awaited as the encounters are still underway.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant as security forces work to contain the situation.
