Dehradun : After its victory in the Kedarnath Assembly by-election, the BJP is now gearing up for wins in upcoming municipal and panchayat elections. The party plans to use the successful strategies deployed in Kedarnath to target the opposition’s formidable strongholds.
Just hours after the Kedarnath by-election victory, the BJP has started brainstorming strategies for future electoral battles. The party is first focusing on municipal elections, followed by panchayat polls. These elections will pave the way for the critical challenge of the 2027 Assembly elections.
For the municipal elections, the BJP is not only riding the wave of enthusiasm from Kedarnath’s victory but is also equipped with the strategic arsenal that proved pivotal in overturning the tide there. Party strategists believe that if the same blueprint is applied in future elections, no opposition stronghold will remain unconquered. The Kedarnath win has infused the BJP and its strategists with renewed energy and morale, acting as a balm for the wounds from the Badrinath by-election defeat.
Three-Pronged Strategy Led to Victory
The success in Kedarnath is attributed to a tri-fold approach:
- Strategic organizational planning.
- Ground-level outreach and work.
- Coordination between the organization and the government.
Continuous Monitoring of Campaign Strategies
The BJP maintained tight control over its campaign until the very last day. Instead of getting entangled in opposition tactics, the party focused on resolving key local issues. From Dehradun to Kedarnath, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, State President Mahendra Bhatt, and State General Secretary (Organization) Ajey meticulously monitored the campaign strategies. The organization prepared a list of problems, and the Chief Minister swiftly addressed them.
State General Secretary Aditya Kothari asserted that the Kedarnath strategy is potent enough to breach even the most impregnable opposition bastions, such as Congress stronghold Chakrata. The BJP is now dreaming of dismantling Chakrata’s resistance using Kedarnath’s formula.
Major Reforms Before the Election
Four months before the election, the BJP deployed a team of 56 experienced party officials in Kedarnath. Under the leadership of Aditya Kothari, MLA Bharat Choudhary, and Minister Saurabh Bahuguna, the team identified factors that could create challenges for the BJP. About 50% of inactive booth committees were replaced. To consolidate votes in reserved constituencies, the party deployed a team of Dalit leaders in five divisions.
This methodical planning and execution proved instrumental in the Kedarnath victory and is now being positioned as a model for upcoming elections.
