Uttarakhand: UPNL employees to march towards Secretariat today… 22,000 employees to go on strike, supported by Federation

Dehradun : Employees have stated that if their demands are not met, 22,000 employees associated with the organization will go on strike starting today. UPNL employees have announced a march towards the Secretariat. Employees assert that if their demands are not addressed, they will begin their strike today. Meanwhile, the State Corporation Employees Federation and the Hydro Electric Employees Union have expressed their support for the movement.

According to Vinod Godiyal, State Coordinator of the UPNL Employees Joint Front, the High Court ruled in 2018 to provide UPNL employees with equal pay for equal work and to create regularization guidelines, but the state government did not implement this decision and instead filed an SLP in the Supreme Court against it. There is resentment among UPNL employees across the state, as the Supreme Court has already dismissed the government’s SLP. Despite this, the government has not implemented the High Court’s 2018 decision and is preparing to file another special permission petition in the Supreme Court, leading to anger among UPNL employees statewide. Meanwhile, Bhagwanpur MLA Mamta Rakesh has also supported the demands of UPNL employees. UPNL employees from across the state will gather at Parade Ground in Dehradun to march towards the Secretariat.
