Uttarkashi: Fair Ground to Be Built in Jaduang Village Near China Border at a Cost of ₹10 Crore; Six Homestays Completed in First Phase

Dehradun : A fair venue will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore in Jaduang village, located near the China border. The Tourism Department is preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) through a consultant agency. The construction of the ground will enable the local Jaad community to organize traditional festivals and cultural events linked to their heritage.

Under the Central Government’s ambitious Vibrant Village Scheme, the first phase of construction in Jaduang village began in September this year. Six homestays are being built in the traditional mountain style. These will be handed over to the original inhabitants of Jaduang, who were displaced during the 1962 India-China war.

Fair Venue to Preserve Cultural Heritage

Alongside the homestays, a fair venue is being planned to provide the Jaad community a space for their cultural and traditional festivals. DS Rana, Assistant Engineer of the executing agency GMVN (Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam), mentioned that the foundation work for three out of six homestays has been completed within three months, and the fourth homestay’s foundation is underway.

The construction of the fair venue is projected to cost ₹10 crore, with the tourism department collaborating with INI Consultant Company for a detailed work plan.

Construction Halted for Winter

As per GMVN Assistant Engineer DS Rana, the construction of six homestays started on September 21. Due to the closure of Gangotri National Park gates on November 30, construction work will stop on November 29 and resume in June next year.

Plans for the Second Phase: 17 Additional Homestays

In the second phase, the tourism department plans to construct 17 additional homestays. DPR preparation for this phase has already started. Originally, 23 families resided in Jaduang village, and the plan includes providing a homestay for each family. After completing the first six homestays, work on the next 17 will commence. However, relocating the ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police) post stationed in Jaduang may be necessary for the project.

Community Involvement

The Jaad community, the original residents of Jaduang village, is being consulted for the DPR related to the fair ground and homestays. The goal is to restore the village’s cultural vibrancy and provide its people with a platform to celebrate their heritage.
