Man held at IGI airport for ‘obscene posts’ against women from Uttarakhand

DEHRADUN: A 21-year-old man from Haridwar was arrested by Dehradun police from Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi for allegedly uploading “obscene and objectionable posts about women from the state’s hilly areas” on social media.
According to police, accused Jatin Choudhary was booked on charges of “dissemination of rumours or alarming news about a community” under IPC section 505(2) at the city’s Vasant Vihar police station a few weeks ago.However, he fled abroad to evade arrest following which Dehradun police had issued a look out notice against him along with a cash reward of Rs 25,000.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Dehradun, Ajai Singh, said, “On Friday evening, Choudhary was detained by the immigration authorities at the airport after he arrived from Thailand. He was then arrested by Dehradun police and brought to the city.”

The SSP added, “The accused was also wanted in connection with other cases of physical assault and rioting, registered at the city’s Vasant Vihar and Rajpur police stations. Further probe is on.”
