The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal received a major boost on Monday when the Election Commission of India (ECI)recgnised it as a national party. 

Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC), and the Communist Party

 of India (CPI) have all lost their national party status as a result of the poll panel’s latest decisions.

However, the NCP and AITC will be recognised as state parties in Nagaland and Meghalaya, respectively. 

Based on their performance in the recently concluded assembly elections, the NCP and Trinamool Congress will be recognised as state parties in

Nagaland and Meghalaya, respectively, according to the Commission.

In its order issued on Monday, the Election Commission also revoked the state party status of several political parties, including BRS in Telangana, whileTipra Motha was granted the status of “recognised state political party.” 

The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) also benefited from the poll panel’s decision, as it was granted state party status in Nagaland.

National People’s Party (NPP); and
Aam Aadmi Party

The AAP was named a national party by the Commission based on its electoral performance in four states: Delhi, Goa, Punjab, and Gujarat. 

The election commission also revoked the state party status granted to the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) in Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Rashtriya Sangh (BRS) in Andhra Pradesh, the PDA in Manipur, the PMK in Puducherry, the RSP in West Bengal, and the MPC in Mizoram.

The recognition confers several benefits, including a common party symbol across states and free airtime during elections on public broadcasters, 

among others.
