Vishnuprayag

Vishnuprayag is situated at the confluence of the Dhauli Ganga and Alaknanda rivers. The ancient temple and Vishnu Kund adorned with the statue of Lord Vishnu are visible at the confluence. Ahead of Joshimath, there is a confluence called Vishnuprayag, 12 km by motor road and 3 km on foot. Here is the confluence of Alaknanda and Vishnuganga (Dhauli Ganga). The description of this pilgrimage has come in detail in Skanda Purana. Here the description of 5 kunds in Vishnu Ganga and 5 in Alaknanda has come. This is where the subtle Badrikashram begins.There are two mountains on the right and left at this place, which are known as the gatekeepers of the Lord. The right is Jai and the left is Vijay. According to mythological belief, Narada Muni did penance to Lord Vishnu at this place. There is also a temple of Lord Vishnu at this site. Which was built by Maharani Ahilyabai of Indore.


How to reach

The distance from Rishikesh to Vishnuprayag is approximately 272 km. This place is also situated on the way to Badrinath. To reach here, you will have to take the help of mountainous winding roads, for which buses or taxis are easily available from Rishikesh. It is situated at an altitude of 2805 feet above sea level. 21 km further north of Karnprayag on the Badrinath road is the holy confluence of Nandakini and Alaknanda. According to the legend, Nanda Maharaj meditated here to please Lord Narayana and get him in the form of a son. There is also a very beautiful temple of Nanda Devi here. Nanda’s temple, Nanda’s penance place and Nandakini’s confluence etc. The name of this place is Nandprayag.There is a divine temple of Lord Shankar at the confluence. The temples of Laxminarayan and Gopalji are visible here. Apart from this, there is a temple of Chandika Devi. A grand fair is organized here during Navratri.

How to reach

This site is situated between Chamoli district of Uttarakhand and Karnprayag. The distance from Karnprayag to Nandprayag is only 21 km. Like the rest of the Prayag, Nandprayag also falls on the way to Badrinath, for which you do not need to look towards any other route separately. If you do not want to stay long in Karnprayag, then you can stay overnight in Chamoli or Joshimath. The distance from Joshimath to Karnprayag is only 69 km. Towards the west from the confluence are the ascetic and temple of Danveer Karna in the form of a rock. It is here that the worship of Lord Surya by Mahadani Karna and the attainment of impenetrable armor coils is famous. Due to being Karna’s penance, this place got its name as Karnprayag.Also, there is a tradition of donating here after bathing.

Karnprayag site included in Panch Prayag of Uttarakhand is located on National Highway 58. This site connects Badrinath and Mana village to Delhi. To reach Karnprayag, you have to travel about 170 km from Rishikesh. Even for this, you have to take the help of mountain roads. The distance from Karnprayag to Badrinath remains only 127 km.
