Four people died due to landslide hitting a parking lot in Chamba,Tehri Garhwal
A massive landslide triggered by incessant rains struck a taxi parking lot near a police station in Chamba town of Tehri Garhwal district on Monday afternoon, killing four people, including a four-month-old newborn. The incident occurred around 12:50p.m., according to State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) commandant Manikant Mishra, when tons of debris suddenly flowed down a hill onto the parking lot, which was soon swamped under the debris. The victims were trapped inside a car that was buried beneath the debris. Poonam Khanduri, 30, Saraswati Khanduri, 32, Sharwal Khanduri, infant, and Prakash were all identified as residents of Jaspur in the Kandisaur area of Tehri Garhwal. Search operations were still underway as of late Monday evening, as more people were believed to be trapped beneath the debris. “According to locals, there could be one more person under the debris being removed by excavating machines,” SDRF inspector Lalita Negi said. Meanwhile, the district administration evacuated residents of houses near the slide zone as a precautionary measure. Since June 15, over 80 people have been killed, 47 have been injured, and 18 are still missing as a result of natural disasters in Uttarakhand, with landslides being the most deadly. Massive landslide ‘nearly flattens’ Jakhan village, forcing residents to flee their homes
DEHRADUN: On Wednesday evening, a massive landslide nearly obliterated Jakhan village on Langha Road in Vikasnagar, about 50 kilometers from Dehradun city. Twelve houses and seven cow sheds were destroyed, and other structures were threatened. According to the District Emergency Operation Center (DEOC), over 100–150 people from 28 families living around the landslide-hit village were evacuated and relocated to a shelter home set up at a government junior school. Some houses developed significant cracks. Since then, the residents of the village have been in a state of panic.” A SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) team was dispatched to the village. However, no fatalities were reported. On Thursday,SDRF commandant Manikant Mishra visited the village to assess the situation.”The district supply office is ensuring that food is delivered to the affected families in the temporary shelter home.Efforts are being made to restore power supplies, according to the State Emergency Operation Center.
