As the northern plains and central regions of India grapple with an intense heatwave, the Himalayan states, including Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, are also facing unprecedented high temperatures this May. On Wednesday, Dehradun reported a maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius, which was seven degrees above the seasonal average, tying with the record for the highest temperature in May set back in 2012.

Notably, Dehradun, which is close to the Himalayan foothills, broke another record this month when it recorded eight days in May with temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. The regional meteorological center said that the city has experienced 40 degrees Celsius for four days in May 2018.

Another mountainous state that is well-liked by residents of Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana is Himachal Pradesh, which is likewise struggling with extreme heat. A town saw 46.0 degrees Celsius, which was a record high for at least 19 years. A greater 46.3 degrees was recorded in Neri, in the Una district. The highest temperature recorded in Shimla has reportedly exceeded 31.6 degrees, as per meteorological monitoring experts. At 38.3 degrees, the popular hill station of Dharamsala reported a higher temperature than Manali (29.5 degrees), Kufri (26.2 degrees), and Narkanda (26.2 degrees).

The temperature in the tourist hill station of Dharamsala, located approximately 500 km from Delhi, peaked at 38.3 degrees. Manali, on the other hand, experienced a high of 29.5 degrees. Kufri and Narkanda maintained temperatures of 26 degrees each.
